The problem with electricity is that it is invisible. Research shows that the simple act of displaying cost in a convenient place can “train the household” to be on the look-out for waste and take action right then to eliminate it, and be rewarded with a change in the display which shows you the savings and reduced emissions by that simple act of turning off something you previously were not paying attention to. And the savings are persistent because it has a behavioural impact.
